I get totally irate everytime I see this sticker. I live in Flint and you cant get more GM than that and I lost my job in spring of 2008 when the company I worked for filed bankruptcy, and guess what? They had nothing to do with cars. It is way out there to think that the only industry that effects the economy and jobs is the auto industry. I want to pull them over each time and as if they own a cell phone? an Ipod? a big flat screen tv? not to mention the clothes on their back and the shoes on their feet, none of which were made in the USA. Most likely the only thing they own American is the car they put the sticker on. And just like someone said earlier, that isn't even 100% accurate. I wonder where the sticker was made?

Ryan,

Thanks for your passionate feedback, but you seem to have missed the point of the post.

It goes MUCH further than cars dude. Inventory those same people and you'll find probably 80-90% of the products they own are made outside the USA. Look at their shoes, jeans, shirts, cell phones, etc!

(So much for buying American! Friggin hypocrites!)

Since your rant is about cars, let's talk cars. Do some research.

ALL of the present-day "Big 3" cars are at least 40% made from parts manufactured or assembled OVERSEAS. This is NOT putting the money into American pockets. Have you ever looked at a "Dodge" engine? Made by Mitsubishi, champ.

"Classics" as you're speaking of make up less than 1% of the cars on the road today, and are an EXCEPTION to the rule and not the "rule" that you're making them out to be. (Although for looks and lines, nothing is more beautiful that a mid-50's Chevy!)

Anyway... look Ryan, I appreciate your perspective but obviously in your emotional rant you simply missed the point of this post.

The point being this: People who sport those stickers are sending MOST of their money overseas, and trying to make themselves feel better about it by slapping a "Worried about your job, keep buying foreign" sticker on their (40% made overseas) cars!

Don't get the wrong idea here, we do appreciate your feedback. It's misinformed, but still appreciated.

Rock on,
Lee Collins

PS: And for the record we have two cars - a 2000 BMW and a 2001 Land Rover. They are both still running just as they good the day we bought them 8+ years ago, and have both been better, more reliable, and less expensive OVERALL than ANY of the "American made" cars we have EVER owned (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and subsidiary companies like Mercury, Pontiac all included).

Nissan will last a heck of a lot longer than a Ford? Yeah I mean when I go to cruise-ins and car shows all the time I always see 1970s and 80s Nissans (Datson's) Toyotas and Hondas - oh wait that's a LIE.

For some reason they just don't seem to LAST! Okay so the engine kept running, but what's the point if you're going to fall through the rusting floor board?

Wonder why the police forces around the nation use cars from the Big 3 does Toyota make a Firetruck yet? Or a diesel engine that lasts over 400,000 miles in a truck that delivers goods all across the country? Wait a minute, did Toyota and Honda help us win WWII buy stopping production of their vehicles to keep this country from being turned into a war zone? Seemed to have forgotten about that.

Funny how I see fleet and construction trucks everywhere that are Chevy, Ford, and Dodge. They must be doing something right!

Maybe you guys should try buying American one more time. Sorry if you purchased a lemon in the 80s but the honest truth is the Big 3 didn't have much to compete against a rusting piece of crap, now did they? But for some reason I still see American cars still around and at car shows all over the country! Just step back and take a look next time folks.

And If I buy a car, I want to buy AMERICAN in that the money goes back into AMERICA to an AMERICA Headquarted company. Sure your Toyota may be built in America, but 'Toyota' isn't an American name to me and you might as well put a check in the mail and send it to Japan because that's where a LARGE percentage of your 'American Built' Car is going to.

Buy a Big Three, at least you know that money goes into a American developed and tested car...you people drive me nuts.

People don't understand, when you buy a so-called foreign Nissan (made in Tennesee), you're actual buying an American-made car from a company headquartered in Japan. When you buy a so-called American Ford (most parts made in Mexico, Canada, etc., even some assembly not done in the U.S.), you're buying a foreign car from a company headquartered in America. Hmm...

And P.S. ~ the Nissan will last for a heck of a lot longer then the Ford.
